Hertha BSC and Sportfive agree on Extension of Contract

HERTHA BSC KG mbH aA Berlin (ots) – The Bundesliga Club HERTHA BSC continues to rely on the cooperation with the Hamburg-based sports rights marketer SPORTFIVE in the future. Both companies agreed on an extension of the existing cooperation for another five years.


 

The existing contract that originally had a life span thru 2009 will be continued until 2014 at newly defined conditions. "We are very pleased that this successful cooperation that to this date has matured in a fair way, will endure even beyond 2009", said Dieter Hoeneß, chairman of the board with HERTHA BSC. "In SPORTFIVE we bank on a partner that is counted among the most renowned sports marketing agencies in Europe."

 

Thomas Röttgermann, director of SPORTFIVE GmbH, also underlines: "This early extension is proof for the faithful cooperation of the past ten years. Since 1996, Hertha BSC continually performs in the first league, and has qualified for an international competition five consecutive times. Additionally, the Berlin Olympic Stadium is among the most modern arenas in Europe – both the Club and the Stadium hold a tremendous potential."

 

The cooperation formed SPORTFIVE’s first comprehensive marketing commitment, and constituted a novel marketing concept in German professional football. Starting in 1992 - and as exclusive partner from 1994 on - SPORTFIVE is in charge of sponsor acquisition as well as of marketing the boxes and business seats. The contract covered the worldwide exploitation of all marketing rights as well as of the decentralized TV rights for the home matches.

 

While in 1992 the agency’s walk-in at HERTHA BSC just about meant the rescue of the Capital’s Club, the collaboration developed into the cooperation of two strong partners. This aspect was taken more into account in the contract defined now. Besides some content changes, primarily the changed rights situation has to be pointed out. Contrary to the current agreement, according to which 2009 the marketing rights transfer back to HERTHA BSC, SPORTFIVE will further on act solely as exclusive marketing agency on behalf of HERTHA BSC. The long contractual term of now more than 20 years incidentally evidences the good cooperation of HERTHA BSC and SPORTFIVE.

 

The comprehensive marketing concept, by the way, is being implemented successfully with five other Bundesliga Clubs.”
